VICTORY CELEBRATION NIGHT: On Saturday night last, Monaleen GAA Club held a Victory Celebration to present medals to last year's Junior football team who won the County League, City League and County Championship. It was a very special night as the club also honoured the 1969 Junior football team who had won the County Championship in that year, beating Kilmallock with a scoreline of 1-6 to 0-5. That team were guests of honour at Saturday nights function, and each team member, player and selectors was presented with a Memorial Medal by the County Chairman John Cregan. Club Chairperson, Caroline O'Kane spoke of the importance of reconnecting with older team members and letting them know how much their contributions are valued.   Some of the team members had not met in some years, and a great night of storytelling and catching up was had. However, many on that team went on to play a life long role in the club after that final, as have their children and grandchildren.   Leo Morrison and Noel Moynihan served for years in various officer positions, and also becoming Trustees of the Club, both having grandchildren currently playing with the club.  Noel's son Shane has served as a senior footballer selector, Committee Member, underage coach, and is a present day trustee of the club. Denis Foley's brothers and nephews played with the club for many years, and he is currently represented by his grandnephew David Crampton.

Monaleen GAA Club Notes Weekending, January 25

ALLIANZ FOOTBALL LEAGUE: Best of luck to Monaleen duo of Donal O'Sullivan and Luke Murphy who are members of the Limerick senior football squad which begins their Allianz Football League Division 4 campaign with a fixture against Waterford in Fraher Field, Dungarvan this Saturday, 7pm. Goalkeeper Donal is joint captain of the Limerick senior football team this year. Limerick recently claimed the McGrath Cup for the first time since 2005.

ALLIANZ HURLING LEAGUE: Good luck to Monaleen's Paul Kinnerk and the Limerick senior hurling squad and backroom team who begin their Division 1 Allianz Hurling League campaign against Tipperary at Semple Stadium on Saturday, 5.15pm. Paul Kinnerk is coach with the Limerick senior hurling squad this year.

MEMBERSHIP: Monaleen GAA Club membership is now open and due for 2020. All playing members should pay without delay as there is no cover for any injury sustained in training or matches without membership being paid. The last day for payment for inclusion in any match ticket draws is,  as always,  March 31st. We appreciate your early attention to this.

GET IRELAND WALKING: Jack Frost forced Monday night's Ireland Lights up/Operation Transformation walk to be postponed. The walks will continue on Monday night next, January 27 when we hope to see a large turnout.

There is no cost involved and the event is open to all members and non-members. However, no dogs are allowed and all children must be accompanied. Participants are asked to wear high visibility clothing, to bring torches and let's light up our community.

Following on from last year's hugely successful 'Weigh Your Age' initiative by Operation Transformation, Halley's CarePlus Pharmacy in the Newtown Centre are inviting people to call in any time, free of charge, to track their progress alongside the Monaleen GAA community walks. They can also address any other topics of a healthy lifestyle in their private consultation room. Contact Halley's on 061-338730.

FUNDRAISING TABLE QUIZ:  Big thanks to all those who supported the Monaleen GAA club Table Quiz Fundraiser in Monaleen Clubhouse on Friday night last. Proceeds from the night go towards our newly crowned Intermediate footballers and Ladies football team expenses.

AWARDS NIGHT: The Monaleen GAA Awards Night takes place on Friday,  January 31 in the Monaleen GAA Clubhouse. Join us for a night of celebration! Further details to follow.

Hoare, Foxhollow; S. Walshe, Commons Road; P. Russell, Mulcair Drive; M. Leahy, Senior Hurlers. On this night we will be congratulating our Senior Footballers, Senior Hurlers and Minor Footballers on their achievements in 2016. All requests for tickets must be with Liam de Burca, Caroline O'Kane or Fiona O'Halloran before 16th of January.  There will also be a box in the clubhouse for ticket requests..
